Assessment Plan
Assessment is an ongoing part of each student’s learning experience at our center. Rather than relying on formal testing, our teachers use daily observations, classroom interactions, and developmentally appropriate assessment tools to understand each child’s progress and guide individualized learning. Throughout the day, teachers observe children as they participate in classroom routines, guided play, and learning. These natural observations provide meaningful insight into each child’s strengths, interests, and developing skills while allowing children to learn and play in a familiar, comfortable environment. Teachers may observe directly within the classroom or from one of our one-way observation offices, which also allow families to observe their child’s classroom experience.
Information is gathered over the course of each assessment and is used to create a comprehensive picture of every child’s development. Classroom teachers complete formal assessments twice each year—in the late fall and early spring—and partner with families to celebrate progress, discuss strengths, and establish individualized goals for continued growth.
Our assessment process considers the while child by evaluating development across six key areas:
Cognitive Skills
Communication skills
Self-Help & Adaptive Skills
Gross Motor Skills
Social & Emotional Skills
Fine Motor
Within each area, students are assessed using developmentally appropriate indicators of Emerging, Progressing, and Mastered. Teachers also document each child’s individual strengths, interests, and goals to ensure every assessment reflects the unique pace of their development. Classroom teachers meet regularly to review observations, discuss children’s progress, and adapt classroom experiences to support each child’s needs. Portfolios are maintained throughout the year, allowing teachers to document growth over time and share meaningful examples of each child’s development with families, and, when appropriate, outside professionals.
