Our mission is to provide children with an environment where they can learn, play, and develop social and emotional skills to set them up for success.

At the Core of TDC

We’re an early childhood program serving children ages 2.5 to 5 in Ann Arbor. The Discovery Center has been part of the community since 1974, supporting children during the foundational years of development.

As a part of our intentional teaching methods, our building and outdoor spaces were designed specifically for our program, creating environments that encourage curiosity, imagination, and meaningful daily learning. Our center has received national recognition and multiple awards.

Each of our six classrooms serves up to twenty-two students and is supported by a team of professional teachers, assistant teachers, a food service manager, and administrative staff. Our key teachers hold degrees in early childhood education, child development, or related fields. We maintain a maximum teacher-to-student ratio of 1:8 and ensure consistent, individualized attention.

With a commitment to respecting and supporting the diverse needs of every child, our core principles include:

  • Every child’s individuality is respected and valued

  • We support the development of confidence and self-esteem as a foundation for lifelong learning

  • All areas of development—social, emotional, cognitive, and physical—are intentionally supported
